Borgward was a German automobile manufacturer founded by Carl F. W. Borgward.
The first vehicle designed by Carl Borgward was Blitzkarren (Cars Lightning, a small van with 3 wheels with an engine 2CF (1.5 kW), which was a great success in the industry covering the market. The small traders were bought to make their deliveries, and the Reich postal service. In 1929 Borgward became the director of Hansa Lloyd AG and guided the development of the Hansa Konsul. In February 1937 came the new Hansa Borgward 2000 and in 1939 the name was shortened to Borgward 2000. The 2000 model was followed by the Borgward 2300 that remained in production until 1942. After the Second World War the company presented the Borgward Hansa 1500, which was followed by the Borgward Isabella in 1954. The Isabella became most popular car and remained in production for the rest of the existence of the company. In 1959 the Borgward P100 was introduced with an innovative air suspension.
In 1961 the company went bankrupt and in 1963 all the machinery to produce the Borgward Isabella and P100 was sold to some Mexican business where production continued until 1970.
The Borgward group produced cars under 4 brands: Borgward, Hansa, Goliath and Lloyd.
One of the chief engineers Borgward was Hubert M. Meingast between 1938 and 1952.
