DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) is an automobile manufacturer. Founded by John DeLorean in 1975, the company is best known for having produced the Model DMC-12 (also often called simply DeLorean), a sports car stainless steel doors and butterfly. The company is known for its short and turbulent existence in the world of automobile: in fact, DeLorean went bankrupt in 1982. Its founder is then accused of drug trafficking to bail out his company. However, he was acquitted, justice Whereas John DeLorean had been entrapped by the FBI.
The DeLorean DMC-12 had a world fame when it served as a basis for machine to go back in time in the film trilogy, Back to the Future (1985 to 1990).
The company is based DMC October 24, 1975 in Detroit, Michigan, by the businessman John DeLorean, who decides to make the vehicle of his dreams. DeLorean became vice-president of General Motors in 1972 and resigned April 2, 1973, at the age of 48 years. He was an engineer and a businessman avant-garde.
The initial investment comes mainly from loans from the Bank of America, through partnerships, as well as various private sources. Contracts are signed with retailers who became shareholders of the company if they agreed to move the car for sale.
DeLorean looking around the world in which countries could be helped financially to build its plants. He has thought about Ireland, but Des O'Malley, Minister of Industry and Trade cons expressed support for this project. DeLorean was going to settle in Puerto Rico when the NIDA (Development Agency of Northern Ireland) makes a proposal to establish that its plant in Northern Ireland and can thus create jobs in this region that had so much needed. The plant is located in Dunmurry on the outskirts of Belfast, with over a hundred million dollars in state subsidies.
