Great Wall Motor Company Limited (GWM, and Chinese: 长城 汽车) is the largest private manufacturer of automobiles in China [citation needed]. It is the first private car company listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and has obtained a financial investment of HKD 1.7 billion financial investment.

Established in 1976, Great Wall initially only manufactured trucks,[3] not producing a sedan until 2008.[4]
When Great Wall made an initial public offering on the Hong Kong stock exchange on December 15, 2003,[5] it became the first private Chinese auto manufacturer to do so.[6]
Hailed as an example of a Chinese automaker which not only talked of exporting to foreign markets such as Europe and the US, Great Wall entered the European market in 2006, selling small vans.[7] That same year saw it exporting products to around 60 countries.[8]
By 2008 the company had established "stable and consolidated marketing and service channels" in 81 countries and had 400 after-sales service centers overseas.[9]
Great Wall's main manufacturing location is in Baoding, Hebei province.
There are at least six overseas "knock down factories" that produce Great Wall models from complete knock down kits; in Russia, Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria, Ukraine and Vietnam.[10][11] These factories are not necessarily affiliated with or owned by Great Wall. Both the Iranian motor company Diar[12] and the Indonesian company WICM,[13] a subsidiary of Indomobil Group, assemble Great Wall vehicles from complete knock down kits.
Together with the Bulgarian company Litex, Great Wall is building a production base in the city of Lovech that, when it becomes operational in 2011, will have a production capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year.
In 2008 an Italian court banned sales of the Great Wall Peri in the European Union because the car too closely resembles a Fiat Panda.[2][39][40] Great Wall continued selling the car outside the EU, however.[39]
Other Great Wall models bear resemblances to foreign automaker's offerings, too. The Great Wall Coolbear looks like a Scion xB,[41][42] the Great Wall Florid a Scion xA,[43] and the concept car i7, a Toyota Yaris.
