The Porsche 356 was a sports car produced by Porsche the German mark between 1948 and 1965. It was the first automobile manufactured by Porsche series, was a four-seater car with rear engine mounted on a chassis derived from Volkswagen, the Porsche 356 primitive 40-horsepower at 4,000 RPM was available in coupe and roadster bodywork.
The designer of the Volkswagen Type 1, Ferdinand Porsche, possibly gave the world the car for the masses (people's car) but it was his son Ferry with Karl Rabe and Erwin Komenda who in 1947 began studying a sporty two-seater on the Volkswagen Project No 356, which would become the first Porsche 356, the first in the history of the brand. [1] Today, Porsche is distinguished by precision, performance, purity and perfection, and the 356 is the first chapter of this story. [2]
For convenience, after the Second World War forced a dependence on the platform of the Beetle, Beetle in your language speaker, but the 356 is much more than a beetle butterfly dress. The rear engine configuration may originate from the old car but the child athlete genes are transformed into a true sports. A brash, fast, and happy tail dancer, the beautiful 356 is the foundation of a proud sporting tradition. [3]
In 2010 it plans to re-produce it as sporty type 'speedster' below the Boxster affordable and priced at less than 35,000 € (47,200 USD) and serve as a rival for the future Bluesport VW, Seat Salsa, R2 Audi and BMW Z2.
In 1939, Porsche designed and built three cars out of range sports model Porsche Type 64, designed for a 800-mile race to be held in September 1939 from Berlin to Rome, the race was canceled.
In 1948 a prototype 356 with Volkswagen 4-cylinder boxer engine of 1,131 cc located just in front of the rear axle (center, rear engine), aluminum frame and tubular steel frame called 'Porsche 356 Roadster No. 1 "was built. This has led to some debate as to the "first" car Porsche but the Porsche 356 is considered to be his first as a production model. [5]
The 356 was created by Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche (son of Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the company). Like its ancestor, the Volkswagen Type 1 (which Ferdinand Porsche "father" was designed), the 356 is a four-cylinder, air cooled, with motor-trasero/tracción-trasera using a semi-monocoque body. Although the 356 was originally designed by Erwin Komenda, Porsche's employee, his mechanics (including the engine, suspension and chassis) were derived from Volkswagen.
On June 8, 1948 Austria 356 certifies the first use on the road, on which were used many Volkswagen parts for manufacturing economy.
Almost from day Porsche began to refine the car with a focus on improved performance in the interest of better driving and more comfort. The days of the VW unit had passed, to the late 50's many parties shared in common with Volkswagen were reduced, the 356 has evolved gradually.
The first of 356 bodies were produced in Gmünd, Austria, handcrafted in aluminum, but in 1950 when production moved to Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart in Germany, a steel body first came out of the workshops.
Little noticed in the beginning, the first 356 were sold primarily in Austria and Germany. From the first prototype in 1948, Porsche took him nearly two years to produce the first 50 cars. In the early 1950s the 356 had gained some renown among enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic for its aerodynamics, handling and excellent build quality. It was common for her to enjoy a plentitude propietraios on the racetrack and the track after the race, leading him to return home, thus increasing their success and their orders to over 15,000 units in 1964, when production of 356 ended in 1965, about 76,000 were built.
