The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is a supercar and auto racing car built by Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG. Intended for racing in the FIA GT Championship in 1997, was designed primarily to be a race car, with some minor adjustments to meet the approval to be a street car.

After competing successfully in 1997, the car was redesigned in 1998 for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and renamed the CLK LM. The project was completed in 1999, being replaced by the Mercedes-Benz CLR Le Mans prototype.

Even after the FIA GT1 class was canceled for the 1999 edition, Mercedes was required to deliver the 25 cars that had promised approved. The first copy was built in 1997 to meet the requirements of the FIA, but this issue was not sold and was restrained by Mercedes-Benz. The remaining 25 copies were built between summer 1998 and winter of 1999 at the Affalterbach factory in Stuttgart. All copies of the CLK GTR was built to drive on the right hand drive left, but one made exclusively for the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.

The difference with the racing version was minimal, the comforts and refinements were at least as the Mercedes-Benz desire was to offer a real race car and not increase the final price. The interiors are leather and had the optional air conditioning system. There will be two small trunks and added a traction control system for safe driving.

Ilmor Engineering made improvements to the engine, increasing the capacity of 5.9 liters to 6.8. This growth increased with the removal of an air restrictor races, gave a power of 720 hp (537 kW) with torque of 776 Nm. Mercedes-AMG announced an acceleration of 0-100 km / h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 322 km / h.

The Guinness Book of Records registered the CLK GTR as the most expensive production car ever built so far, with a price of U.S. $ 1,547,620.
