The Maserati MC12 is a super sports car produced by Italian automaker Maserati during the years 2004 and 2005 to compete in the FIA GT Championship, a tournament of great cars organized by International Automobile Federation.
In its first year of production were built 30 units, of which 5 were for sale the following year, 30 more were produced, resulting in a total of 60 units produced in two years. 50 cars were sold for 600,000 € to selected customers [3].
The MC12 uses the chassis of the Enzo Ferrari, but is larger in all dimensions. Its gasoline engine is a V12 naturally aspirated 6.0-liter, four valves per cylinder and 632 hp of maximum power. MC12 maximum speed is 330 km / h (205 mph) against 350 km / h (217.5 mph) Enzo Ferrari [4].
The MC12 was Maserati's return to racing after 37 years absence. [5]
The road version was produced in order to be approved the racing version, since one of the requirements for participation in the FIA GT is the production of at least 25 road cars. Thus, three models of the MC12 participated GT1 in the FIA GT to perform well, including a first place in 2004 at the Zhuhai race, China. In 2005, the MC12 ran in the American Le Mans Series, but suffered penalties for exceeding the maximum allowed size.
