The Plymouth Barracuda is a 2 door car that was manufactured by the Plymouth division of Chrysler Corporation from 1964 to 1974.

The first generation Barracuda, an A-Coupe Fastback body based on the Plymouth Valiant, had a wraparound rear glass and distinctive was available from 1964 to 1966.

The second generation 1967 - 1969 Barracuda, though still based Valiant, was heavily redesigned. A second generation car bodies were found in Fastback, notchback and convertible versions.

The 1970 - 1974 E-body Barracuda, not based on Valiant, was available as a coupe and a cabriolet, which were both very different from previous models.

The trends of the automobile in the early 1960s had all the U.S. manufacturers looking to sport compact cars. A body Chrysler Plymouth Valiant was chosen for the company's efforts in this direction [1].

Ford Mustang, which significantly outsold the Barracuda, gave this type of vehicle, its familiar name "pony cars", but leave the Fastback Barracuda's on 1 April 1964 beat the Mustang two weeks [2].

Frames Plymouth wanted the name of the Panda car, an idea that was unpopular with the designers of the car. In the end, the suggestion of John Samsen Barracuda has been chosen [3].

The Barracuda has used the 106 in wheelbase Valiant and Valiant hood, goggles, lights, windshield, wind windows, quarter panels and bumpers, while the other sheet metal and glass is new. This hybrid design approach has significantly reduced the development and tooling costs and time for the new model.
