DiRT Rally 2.0 - The Ultimate Beginner's Guide

The key to success is a mixture of luck, talent, and several hours of hard work and dedication.

DiRT Rally 2.0 - The Ultimate Beginner's Guide

The Codemasters videogame development company came up with yet another banger, the sequel to DiRT Rally. This game follows the same general theme as its predecessor but comes with a lot more and a greater visual experience, too much excitement for the fans. If you're a complete beginner to DiRT Rally or racing simulation games in general, then this is the right place for you.

How to Get Good in This Game?

There's no shortcut to getting good at DiRT Rally 2.0. The key to success is a mixture of luck, talent, and several hours of hard work and dedication. However, these tips will help you grow faster in this game:

1. Set up an Optimal Gaming Environment

Regardless of how much of a talent you have, if your gaming environment, e.g., your rig and equipment, are not up to the mark, you will not excel in the game. Of course, it's not possible to get the best equipment and settings out there, but you can at least attempt to have the best according to your budget and resources. It will give you a solid boost and compete with others at their privileges.

For a car racing game like DiRT Rally 2.0, a rig resembles real-life driving aesthetics, like steering wheels, an accelerator, gears, etc. It will make the experience more enjoyable and competitive.

2. Start with Slower Cars

You have to start DiRT Rally 2.0 with slower cars. Faster cars will often overwhelm you, and you won't establish a good grip in this game. If anything, the faster and more advanced cars will only but frustrate you at first. Luckily, your game begins with slower cars, and you need no repairing costs for them. Therefore, you have more room to freely learn and grow. You may upgrade your vehicles later.

3. Work on Control Rather than Speed

This point extends to the previous one. Going at high speed can be thrilling, but DiRT Rally is not like other racing games, where the thrill is all that matters. You have to come across different environments like rain, slippery ground, sand, and storm, and each of those environmental conditions impacts how you drive your car. Therefore, you need to control your vehicle in all kinds of environments, first and foremost.

4. Challenge People at Leagues

Career mode indeed is fun, but the real challenge lies in playing against real players. Algorithms and bots can be beaten, eventually, but to beat a player, you have to fight against a mind that can think and plan and that wants to, above everything, win against you. Over here, the lessons you will learn and the magnitude with which you will grow cannot be compared to playing in a story.

5. Cars & Racing Mechanics in DiRT Rally 2.0

Moving on, we need to focus a little on the cars too. Like real life, there are 3 kinds of cars available for the players in DiRT Rally 2.0. Each of them has its unique mechanics, and just understanding them will help you determine which car is the right one for you.

Front-Wheel Drives - As the name suggests, in front-wheel drives, the 2 wheels of the car at the front rotate. These cars have very strong traction and are specially designed for harsh environments, typical of DiRT Rally 2.0. Their drawback, however, is the fact that these cars don't make abrupt turns very well.

Rear-Wheel Drives - Rear-wheel drives can accompany a stronger engine, and since the power is focused on the rear wheels, the front wheels are free to make their turns without any extra burden. It makes the car a good option for maps that have a lot of turns. But in most maps of DiRT Rally, these cars won't do well.

Four-Wheel Drives - Four-Wheel drives are ideal for DiRT Rally 2.0. Not only do they have good traction, but it's also very easy to handle them. However, it's a long journey until you start using 4wDs in DiRT Rally 2.0 efficiently, and you have a lot of achievements to collect before you can reach that point.

6. Cameras in DiRT Rally 2.0

In DiRT Rally 2.0, you can race from a variety of perspectives. We will highlight 3 of them, which are generally considered good buy players. They are as follows:

Chase Cam - This is a perspective default and typical to all racing games traditionally. The camera gives us a view of the entire car from the back. This perspective has a lot of aesthetic appeal to it, but it has very little performance value.

Real-Time Cam - As the name suggests, in this perspective, you see a steering wheel in the front window and the rest that you'd see while driving the car in actual life. This perspective also has live performance value and may only be needed if you use a keyboard to play the game.

Bonner Cam - This perspective gives you the terrain view, but the top of the bonnet showing. You can experience all the shakes and nuances of the movement of your car. It lacks aesthetic appeal, but that can be compensated for if you have a high-end racing rig. Its performance value is pretty high, though.

7. Types of Tires & Their Benefits

There are 3 types of tires players can choose from in DiRT Rally 2.0. They are as follows:

Soft Tires - These tires may not last long enough as compared to others, but due to their stronger grip, you can expect much more speed from them.

Medium Tires - These are used in cases where you want a better grip and speed, but the terrain is too tricky for a soft tire.

Hard Tires - These tires may not have a strong grip, but they bear harsh environments like it's a piece of cake and last quite long. Professional DiRT Rally players rarely use them, though.

Final Remarks

The good thing about DiRT Rally 2.0 is that you will not lose hope. Every time you play it, you'll see that you've become better than before, and you'll want to come back. Keeping up at this pace, you'll eventually get into the big league. Very few games have this dynamic where you actually see yourself improving, and this is one of the fateful games that you can truly enjoy due to that dynamic.
