When it comes to Formula 1 racing, the show isn't just about the cars. It's also about the drivers, who are backed by still another essential element that every racing series needs: tires. Throughout the history of Formula 1, various makes and models of tires have played their important in securing winning Championship victories.

The data says that Pirelli is the best tire manufacturer in recent years (2011 to 2021), winning 11 championship titles for drivers from Mercedes (7), and Red Bull Racing (4). Also, Goodyear had an impressive run during the 80s winning 13 titles for McLaren (6), Williams (5), and Benetton (2).

There's no denying that tires play a critical role in the pace of F1 racing, and with nearly constant changes in the sport, the tire manufacturers are constantly on their toes. That said, it's difficult to really pinpoint the 'best' tire manufacturer—after all, they're almost always changing things up, adapting to meet the needs of their drivers.

These results are correct at the time of writing, so may change in the future. It will be interesting to see whether any of the other tire manufacturers might one day challenge Pirelli's predominance in this area.
