Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A. is an Italian car manufacturer. The company's name is a combination of the original name, A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and the last name of entrepreneur Nicola Romeo, who took control of the company in 1915.

The right side, a giant serpent/dragon gobbling up a red man, is the symbol of the influential Visconti family of 11th century Milan. The laurel leaf crown celebrating the victory at the first edition of the World Racing Car Championship won by Alfa-Romeo with its car "Alfa P2" was added in 1925.

The distinctive signs of the brand remain intact: on the one hand, the traditional coat of arms with the “f” surmounted by the crown, which has been the unmistakable trademark and soul of the company since the 1930s, albeit with some graphic tweaks over the decades.

This logo was officially introduced on 14th August 2000, just months after the complete takeover of Saab Automobile AB by General Motors.

The Crown's history and reputation have given it prominence in the Toyota lineup, as it is one of the few current Toyota models to carry its own unique insignia for the model line with the current Crown having a stylized crown emblem on the grille and steering wheel along with inspiring the names of its smaller progenitors.
